Tanks-A-Lot

I got the fuel tank out a couple of weeks ago as well as the filler neck and some of the fuel vapor recovery components. The weather has been a bit chilly to work in the unheated garage but I hope to be making some good progress soon. ICE components have been listed on CraigsList but so far no takers. Might be hard to sell the motor as most VW motor heads are looking for a 16V to swap in place of an 8V.

Still Removing Stuff

My friend Ellis and I removed the exhaust system, fuel pump, and fuel accumulator from the car. The exhaust system must have been replaced not long ago because the bolts came right off. Well, all but the ones on the engine side of the catalytic converter, those were a job for the angle grinder. Fuel lines are out also. I'm going to be pulling out the gas tank next. That requires dropping the rear trailing arm a few inches as the tank is molded all around it. That will leave the fuel vapor expansion tank and the charcoal canister which are located inside the front fender wells. I will remove those components once I have the front up on jack stands when I start the manual steering rack conversion.
